Artist Note

At first, this piece began as a simple still life study. But as I researched blue jays and what they represent in various cultures, the work started to transform. In some Native American traditions, the blue jay is seen as a symbol of mischief—much like the fox or coyote.

I began to reflect on all the times I’ve seen blue jays throughout my life. I always wondered: was it a sign from the other side? Or maybe a warning that someone was trying to fool me?

I guess we’ll never know.
